Self-care has become an integral part of our mental wellbeing, but are we really taking the time to get enough of it? We’re starting a revolution and prioritizing time to ourselves – starting right as we get out of bed.

Even if you can only manage 10 or 20 minutes, that morning routine is a reminder that you deserve to put yourself first. Plus – it’s like meditating without the mantras! Ever catch yourself moisturizing your face much more slowly than necessary? You were probably caught in thought while winding down for the day. It’s these kinds of moments that we encourage embracing when you wake up. Here’s how we make it work without being late for your first meeting.

Our Daily Self-Care Checklist

Get Moving:We’re big on bedtime routines, but it’s equally important to start your day off strong and at peace. To make this happen, you’re going to need a reason to get out of bed early and stay awake – aka exercise. The good news is, you don’t have to start with a five-mile run. Try easing into your new schedule with a quick yoga flow accompanied by a Youtube video! The goal is to get your blood pumping so you don’t fall right back asleep – or lay in bed staring at your screen (which is impossible since you know not to keep your phone in your bedroom.)

A Comfortable Robe:We know. The hardest part of getting up in the morning is leaving your cozy, warm bed – so give yourself something to look forward to! Putting on a plush robe is basically like walking around wrapped up in your down duvet – except that you can actually move your arms in order to make breakfast.

An Energizing Tonic:Whether you’re into coffee, celery juice or spearmint tea, your drink of choice should be part of your ritual. It’s something to look forward to and yet another way to slow down while also getting energized for the day ahead. Try Lee Tilghman’s vegan matcha latte sweetened with maple syrup, a simple mug of hot water with lemon or nutritionist Kelly LeVeque’s “Spa Smoothie”. Preparing one of these will feel like a gift to yourself each morning.

A Daily Escape:A good book, your favorite morning show or meditation are all great things to indulge in during robe life. Our only rule here – and this is crucial – is to stay off social media and email. Remember, this is supposed to be about self-care, emphasis on the self. Leave work and everyone else's life out of it.

Once you start prioritizing yourself at the start of the day, it will be so much easier and less emotionally taxing to spend the rest of the day dedicated to the grind. That means less “don’t talk to me before my coffee,” less burnout and more power for your hustle.
