With a meticulous eye for pattern and a highly creative style, Caroline Cecil’s prints have been available exclusively to interior designers – until now. We partnered with the fine artist and textile designer to launch our first ever decorative pillow collection. Featuring minimalist, hand-painted designs printed onto Belgian linen, these throw and lumbar pillows celebrate the spirit of Morocco and pair beautifully with our entire assortment. Take a video tour of Caroline’s studio and see how she developed these one-of-a-kind pillow prints.

Tell us a bit about your artistic background.

My grandmother was a professional watercolorist, and she taught me how to paint growing up. After earning my degree from Parsons School of Design, I started working in the industry. I was recruited by Target and joined their design team in Minnesota. From there, I moved to the Bay Area where I worked in Silicon Valley as a design director for two different companies. After working at the director level, I felt passionate and prepared to launch my own brand, creating hand-painted and printed textiles for interior design showrooms.

How did the collaboration with Parachute come together?

As a female entrepreneur, I’ve been super inspired by the brand that Ariel Kaye (Founder and CEO) has built, and I’ve had my eye on Parachute since its early stages. Ariel and I happened to be at a conference together, and I approached her with the idea of collaborating. At the time, Parachute hadn’t experimented with any bold or graphic prints in their assortment, and I saw an opportunity to share my art. I also knew that the design and manufacturing processes at Parachute would be treated equally – and that’s very important to me. There is a lot of integrity on how the products at Parachute are made, which aligns with my own business philosophy. Overall, it was a very natural and seamless partnership!

We have a few different categories, including bedding, bath, decor. What inspired the decision to partner on pillows, specifically?

When we started discussing the concept for the collaboration, we immediately zeroed in on pillows – it’s a great category for print and pattern. I’ve always been a huge fan of how Parachute has made a minimalist home accessible, warm and livable. I knew throw pillows would cater to – and enhance – that aesthetic.

How would you describe each print?

At the start of the collaboration, we identified the theme as Moroccan minimalism. Interpreting the motif was a very immersive experience – there’s so much rich pattern history in the country. It was an excellent creative exercise capturing the essence of that visual language while adding my own spin. Once we knew what we wanted for the overall look of the collection, we decided on designing three different prints – one that was bold and graphic, one that was small scale yet dense and one that was small scale and sweet. I think we crafted a beautiful homage to the textiles and patterns found in Morocco.

What are a few ways to style these pillows at home?

This pillow collection can be styled in a variety of ways. You could place pillows in your entryway, on your bed, and/or on sofas or chairs in your living room. It’s extremely versatile, and our intent was to give people options to play with throughout the home.

Why is this launch with Parachute a milestone for your business?

The partnership marks my first foray into the retail space. I’ve been lucky to have my prints in some of the most beautiful homes and studios in the country through my work with interior designers. With this collaboration, I am able to bring the same level of quality and authenticity to a much larger audience at the retail level. It’s been an incredible experience working with the Creative team at Parachute, and after a year of ideating and development, I’m thrilled to see these pillows on the Parachute ecommerce site.
