If there's one thing we all have in common it’s that everyone needs a good night's sleep, and one of the most critical factors in getting quality rest is your bed! Everyone needs different things to achieve the best sleep. There are so many choices when it comes to layering your bed – some prefer quilts while others like comforters, some need a bedspread while a coverlet can be perfect for the next person. We’re here to help explain all the little details that make each layering option unique to help you create the perfect sleep oasis. Let’s make sure you’re as comfortable as possible when you crawl into bed at night. The only downside is that you may never want to leave!

What is a Quilt?

Quilting has been around for centuries and while it is a style of manufacturing, it is also an art form that has been passed down for generations. A quilt is a multi-layered textile that usually is composed of three layers: a top, middle and bottom layer. They are woven together to create a warm blanket. Quilts work perfectly in a casual decorating style to give your home a rustic traditional look.

What is a Comforter?

Comforters are a thick bedding topper filled with down or down alternative. Comforters are sewn or quilted to ensure the filling is secured and evenly distributed. The great thing about comforters is that they are often warm enough to use without a blanket or top sheet underneath. If you are looking for the ultimate cloud-like sleeping experience, a large cozy comforter is precisely what you need.

What is a Bedspread?

A bedspread is a single-layer bed topper that covers the entire bed down to the floor, and they’re often long enough even to cover the pillows. They are a lighter layer than a comforter or quilt and are intended to be layered on the bed with other sheets and blankets. Bedspreads are great for warm nights and people who find themselves kicking off all the covers in the middle of the night.

What is a Coverlet?

A coverlet may be the only thing on this list that you have never heard of. Some people may use the blanket term “bedspread” (no pun intended) to talk about coverlets, but they have unique qualities of their own. Coverlets are smaller and designed to be a decorative element at the foot of a bed or a thin extra layer in between the sheets and a bedspread or comforter. Styling coverlets is incredibly easy as they have multiple uses. If you find that you often sleep warm, coverlets can be the perfect light layer for you.

Now that you know the ins and outs of these beautiful bedding styles, you can feel prepared to pick the layer that's perfect for your bedroom!
