Sustainability at Parachute
As a home essentials brand, reducing our impact revolves around our products’ lifecycle. This means sourcing sustainable materials, manufacturing in socially- and environmentally-responsible ways, designing only timeless and lasting collections, and taking our business circular.
It’s our responsibility to do our part to help shift the entire textile industry.
Fibers First
We’re invested in a responsible materials strategy that prioritizes high-quality fibers and low-intervention farming or production methods to reduce our emissions.
Our goal is to exclusively source only Parachute Preferred Materials. We recently surpassed 35% and are hoping to double that by 2025.
A few of our favorite preferred materials include:
Flax: A premium quality, lower footprint, plant-based fiber. Light on the earth, easy on the soil, our linen products only get better with time.
TENCEL™ Lyocell: Harvested from sustainable wood sources, these fibers are biodegradable, compostable, breathable, and oh-so smooth.
Organic Cotton: GOTS certified products meet stringent ecological and social criteria throughout the supply chain, so these organic goods are always made without harmful chemicals or dyes.
Parachute is certified to GOTS: certified by Control Union 887265.
RDS Down: Our down comes from humanely treated ducks and geese, upholds The Five Freedoms of animal welfare, and is sourced as a byproduct of the food industry.
Parachute is certified to RDS: certified by Control Union 887265.
Recycled Polyester: GRS certified products contain recycled material that’s been independently verified at every stage of the supply chain.
Parachute is certified to GRS: certified by Control Union 887265.
Packaging matters too. So we’ve switched our shipping boxes to FSC certified cardboard, and our mailers to 100% recycled polyester. Getting our product to you, safe and sound, is how we reduce the most waste. Right after that is using LDPE bags that are recycled and recyclable whenever possible. It’s not a perfect solution, but we’re working on it every day.
Made Better
We take great care in choosing the partners who make our goods, prioritizing those who share our values of caring for workers and the planet.
All vendors sign our Code of Conduct, which formalizes the shared values we look for when we choose ethical partners to make our product. By signing it, our vendors agree to continuously uphold our ethical, labor, and environmental standards.
We aim to work with family-owned factories, like the mill in Portugal that makes a majority of our bedding products. Owned and operated by the founder’s great-grandchildren, they have adopted modern technologies while preserving their culture’s time-honored techniques.
It’s important that our manufacturing processes are clean. Most of our products are OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified -- OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 keeps you and your family safe by testing [each component of] a certified product against a list of over 1,000 harmful substances.
Timeless Essentials
A foundational aspect of living sustainably is loving the items you own for years and years.
“One of the goals in design is creating products that have longevity, that can be with you through different phases of your life or passed down. Modern takes on classic designs that stand the test of time.” – Amy Hoban, Chief Creative Officer
Each item we make is thoughtfully crafted with durability in mind. Our essentials are designed to be lived with, used, slept on, cozied up with on a daily basis. It's another reason why we opt for premium, lasting materials that only get better with use and time. So you won’t need to constantly repurchase your home linens and decor.
Circularity
Over the past few years, we’ve dipped our toes into circularity and are excited to truly dive in this summer.
In 2022, we launched our first circular program – the Recycled Down Pillow – made of sanitized down from returned Parachute pillows.
We’ve begun replacing all our down alternative fills with responsibly sourced recycled polyester. GRS certified products contain recycled material that’s been independently verified at every stage of the supply chain. As of 2024, all our quilts and comforters now use 70%-100% recycled down alternative fill.
Coming soon: Our new circularity platform launches summer 2024. We can’t wait to share what we’ve been working on with you.
Our Goal
Carbon is the #1 factor leading to our warming planet.
Our goal is to reduce our emissions in line with the 1.5°C warming path set by the Paris Agreement.
We start by measuring our annual company greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, taking stock of the carbon we use to run and operate Parachute each year and identifying our hot spots to prioritize decarbonization efforts. From the farming practices and materials we choose, to the clean energy production we encourage, to the efficient transportation methods we enforce, to the quality and longevity of our products – it all plays a part.
What we need to do is reduce our emissions by 2030 in line with the Paris Agreement.
All you need to do is love your home essentials for years to come.
