We know the incredible impact that a well-placed, beautifully-made rug can have on a space. Whether it’s creating a plush, cozy place for your feet to land on the cool floor beside your bed, providing a warm, grounding centerpiece for your living room, or adding an attractive and durable floor covering for your entryway, the perfect rug can truly transform a room. We also know that an area rug is a big investment – and one you want to keep looking its best. We certainly want our new Pebble Wool Rug and Basket Weave Wool Rug to last forever, they're just so pretty! But let’s face it, rugs get dirty and endure a lot of wear and tear. Luckily, we’re here to share five essential tips for keeping your rug looking like new. After all, we need to protect those assets!

01

Don't Forget to Vacuum

It seems obvious, but did you know that regular vacuuming protects your rug from abrasive dirt and debris that can dull the overall look of your rug? Vacuuming once a week will remove buildup and help keep the fibers of your rug intact. Pro tip: use a soft bristle brush or broom to loosen particles stuck in your rug before vacuuming for even more effective cleaning. And for high traffic areas don’t be afraid to vacuum twice a week! For rugs with fringe like our new Pebble Wool Rug avoid getting too close to the border with your vacuum and damaging the detailing. Instead use a stiff brush to keep the fringe looking fresh.

02

Address Spills Immediately

Spills are bound to happen. Instead of stressing, get to cleaning ASAP. We recommend blotting the stain with a clean, dry cloth. Avoid rubbing so the stain doesn’t spread. Spot clean with mild soap as needed and continue to blot. For a natural and inexpensive cleaner, try sprinkling the stain with baking soda. Allow it to sit for several hours or overnight before vacuuming. The baking soda will absorb the excess moisture and help lift the stain. It's magic!

03

Rotate Your Rug Regularly

Rugs are often in high traffic areas. To help spread out the wear and tear and preserve your rug try rotating it twice a year. Put over-used areas under a table, bed or couch to give them a break! This will also help with divots in the rug created by furniture. With regular rotation, your rug will be exposed to similar elements on all sides and hopefully age more gracefully.

04

Use a Rug Pad

It may seem like an unnecessary layer – especially when you can’t see it – but rug pads make a world of difference in keeping your rug looking its best. A pad adds plushness which stops the fibers of the rug from being crushed. It also helps to prevent deep indents from furniture which also are damaging. Our Rug Pad is made of eco-friendly material that prevents slipping and sliding without any toxic adhesives.

05

Know When to Call in Professionals

When all else fails, don’t be afraid to turn to the experts for maintenance on your rug. Everything deserves a deep cleaning once in a while and a professional will be able to easily determine the best care for your rug. Fabrics require different attention and supplies and a professional will know what's best. If your area rug is looking dirty, flat, damaged or sunken it’s time to schedule a deep cleaning and bring new life to your area rug and home.
