Nursery goals! When Ariel Kaye set out to design a nursery for her new baby boy, Van, she turned to Crate and Kids to bring her "under the sea" vision to life. Calming tones, soft textures and whimsical touches make this coastal inspired haven a room the entire family can enjoy! Get inspired by this tranquil nursery.

Incorporate Texture and Warmth

For Ariel, texture and warmth are key components in a nursery. The Snooze Glider has a boucle fabric that adds a tactile and cozy punch to the room. Plus, the unique shape adds a sophisticated and elevated look to the nursery. "The glider is pretty special," says Ariel, "I've basically been living on it the past six weeks. It's so comfortable and supportive." Ariel also brought in Parachute’s soft, textural Wool Braided Rug to tie the space together. It’s plush and cushiony – great for getting down on the ground with the baby during tummy time. Playing with different fabrications allowed Ariel to create a room that is soft, livable and playful.

Say No to Clutter

Babies have a lot of stuff! Ariel prioritized eliminating clutter in the room to reduce stress and make it a space everyone can enjoy. In Van's room, she used bins and baskets to help organize toys, books, clothes and supplies. The Whale Storage Basket from Crate & Barrel provides a thoughtful place to store items and it fits with the under the sea theme perfectly!

Say Yes to Wallpaper

Ariel used wallpaper for the first time in daughter Lou's nursery two years ago. She fell in love with the decorative and unexpected touch wallpaper added to the room. In Van’s nursery, she used the “Life Aquatic” wallpaper from Chasing Paper. Featuring a subtle ocean theme, the wallpaper has a light background and features animals such as whales, crabs, seahorses and fish in a soft blue tone. Ariel used the wallpaper on an accent wall, keeping the pattern in the room minimal. The accent wall and the paper's subtle color makes the room feel large, open and airy. Want to know the best part about the wallpaper? Big sister Lou loves animals and comes in to show her baby brother the starfish and Beluga Whales every chance she gets.

Create a Cohesive Look

One of Ariel’s top priorities for designing this nursery was to create a space that felt comfortable for mom and baby and welcoming to her daughter Lou. Lou loves animals and always wants to come check out the wallpaper, the mobile and the stuffed animals. Ariel shares, "my son was born in December so I’ve been spending a lot of time in the nursery! It's reminded me of how important it is to create spaces throughout the home that meet the needs of the entire family. I'm so happy that the Crate and Kids pieces are consistent with the aesthetic of the rest of the home. Everything looks and feels so cozy. I couldn't be happier with the final product."
